Lesson One : Words with ‘dge’ as in bridge:

‘dge’ as in bridge
cut and glue into your scrap book------------------------- ----------------------------- ----------cut

1. Pointing to the caption under the bridge read ‘dge’ as in bridge.

2. Cut along the dotted lines and glue into your scrap book.

3. Read the story starting on page 3, called “Kid’s Camp Out”.

Note to Tutor: A few words in this story may be unfamiliar to the children. Letting them read in pairs is a good idea as they can help each other with difficult words. Give help where needed.

4. Reread the story.
Highlight all the words which have ‘dge’ as in bridge in them.
You can use a highlighter or circle each word using a coloured
pencil.
5. Point to each word you have highlighted and read it to your
partner. Take it in turns to read the words.
6. Turn to page ------- and write the ‘dge’ as in bridge words on
the hut.
Write each word only once even if it appears more than once in
the story.

10. Pretend you are the Fairy Queen and discuss with your partner
what you think would be a fitting punishment for the two
mischievous elves.

11. Go to the third page of the ‘Kids’ Camp Out’ story and find the
kangaroo and eagle. Using small, neat printing write two speech
bubbles. What is the kangaroo saying to the eagle? What is the
eagle saying to the kangaroo ?



12.Glue pages 2-7 into your scrap book.
