In Phonic Pack Two you looked at some words with ‘y’ as in sky in them. There is a rule to remember when you add an ‘s’ or a ‘d’ to some of these words.
Look at the word ‘cry’. What happens when an ‘s’ or a ‘d’ is added to it?
Tutor: Give your child time to look and think, and see if he/she can vocalise what is happening.
cry cries cried
Did you work out what is happening? If you did you are a very clever cookie!!!
This is the rule: The ‘y’ changes to ‘ie’.
You could say the ‘y’ as in sky changes to ‘ie’ as in pie.
Add an ‘s’ and a ‘d’ to the following words. (Just like cry, cries, cried)
try tr tr .
fry fr fr .
dry dr dr .
spy sp sp .
Read the words to your tutor and discuss the meaning of each one.
