Notes for Tutor: Lesson Eleven – Phonic Book Seven

1. At the beginning of the lesson read through the words on the elephants. Make sure the children
pronounce them properly.
Discuss the meaning of each word.

2. Read through the instructions on page 17 and make sure the children understand what to do
before they start on the given task.

3. Give the children enough time to work through this task. Most of them will find it a challenge but
the more they work out for themselves the more beneficial it will be.

4. Cheerfully give help where needed but encourage each child to work with minimal help.

Observing how each child works will give you useful information for your records.
The help an individual child requests will tell you a lot about the development of that child.
Commitment to the task, or lack of it, will be evident from each child.
The ability, or lack of ability, to follow several instructions at once will be evident.

5. The following are the completed rhymes but if a child inserts another word, which rhymes and
makes sense, then of course it is acceptable.

Elephant jokes are lots of fun. The children probably know some more.
Perhaps they could have a go at writing their own.

Lesson Twelve:

No 5 The word photograph begins and ends with ‘ph’
