Revision: Read sentences on page 15.
1. Let’s make your very own book.
2. Read the sentences in the rectangles on pages 17, 18 and 19.
3. Colour the pictures in the correct colours.
4. In the last box you have to fill in your favourite colour and do a drawing using that colour.
5. Cut along the lines on pages 17, 18 and 19.
6. Staple the pages together to make your book.
7. Write your name on the front and number the pages in your book.
8. Read your book to your tutor (and anyone else you can find to read it to). Point to each word as you read.
9. Find the sheet of ‘colour word’ flashcards. Ask you tutor to cut them out for you, please.
10.Match each word to the correct colour word in your
book.
11.Use these flashcards frequently to practise reading the
colour words.
Note to tutor: Making a book has several positive outcomes:
a) Your child owns the book because he/she puts so much into its making.
c) Discuss with your child the question, “Does the order of the pages matter, in this book?” Let your child experiment to find out.
(In this book it does not matter because the pages do not need to be in order for a story to progress. In most books, of course, the pages do have to be in a particular order to tell the story.)
d) This activity reinforces the knowledge that we read from the front of a book to the back.
e) This book introduces colour words. It is good for your child to be able to read and write the colour words. Use the flashcards regularly to help achieve this aim.
f) It is OK to take several days to complete this book. Progress will depend on how quickly your child works, and how much detail he/she wants to put into each picture. Completing a page or two each day along with a page from Phonic Pack 2 may be a good way to go. This activity needs to be enjoyed so the book will be a positive for your child.
g) Remember: praise, encouragement and patience are essential for positive learning.
