Notes for Tutor

Lesson Eighteen:

Number 6: Blackboard the words which are going to be discussed.

It is a beneficial exercise to ask a child to orally put nominated words into sentences:
a) The child has to put the given word into a meaningful sentence.
b) It gives the child practise at ordering her/ his thoughts.
c) It gives the child practise at speaking clearly and with expression.

It is a more challenging exercise for the child to write the sentence:
a) The child has practise using correct punctuation.
b) The child has practise using the correct spelling.
c) Having practise writing a correct sentence improves the child’s outcomes with other writing.
d) Writing a sentence gives the child invaluable practise at getting his/ her thoughts into order.

Time in the classroom is a factor and does not allow for every child to write a sentence using every word under consideration. It is a useful exercise to give each child one (different) word to write into a sentence.
Each child can read his/her sentence to the class or small group. The other children in the class or small group can discuss if the sentence and the meaning of the (given) word are correct.

Lesson Nineteen:

Lesson Nineteen stipulates that the child writes sentences.
Writing correct sentences is a beneficial activity for the children (as mentioned above):
a) The child has practise using the correct punctuation.
b) The child has practise using the correct spelling.
c) Having practise writing a correct sentence improves the child’s outcomes with other writing.
d) Writing a sentence gives the child invaluable practise at getting his/ her thoughts into order.

e) To consolidate the (given) word and spelling of that word, underline it after completing the sentence.
f) Read the sentence to the class or small group.

Lesson Twenty Two:

No 1 answers : highchair hightlighter

No 2: Children write the words on a spare piece of paper or on the next page in his/her scrap book.
If time is a factor, give the children a set amount of time to find as many words as possible.
A small reward for the most correct words is a good motivator.

No 3 answers: fortnight midnight tonight
