Read the ‘y’ as in teddy words from Lesson 27.

Lesson Twenty Eight (adding s)
Note to tutor: This lesson will look at words that change from singular to plural by adding an “s”. Explain that ‘singular’ means one, ‘plural’ means more than one and by adding an ‘s’ some words can be changed from singular to plural. Words from previous lessons will be used, so your child should be able to read them.

1. Look at the following words and pictures.

cat cats

dog dogs

pig pigs

ant ants

2. Can you tell your tutor what is happening to each pair of words? Did you notice that each time a word is repeated it has an ‘s’ added?
3. Adding an ‘s’ to these words changes its meaning from singular (meaning one), to plural (meaning more than one).
4. Rewrite the following words and add an ‘s’.
The first one has been done for you. I’m magic!
