Lesson Thirty Nine: because
Revision: Read the sentences on pages 71 and 72.

1. This lesson introduces the word ‘because’.
2. Notice that the word ‘because’ with a capital letter looks like this ‘Because’, and without a capital letter it looks like this, ‘because’.
3. Where would you find the word ‘Because’ with a capital letter?
(at the beginning of a sentence).
4. Trace over and then write the word ‘Because’, with a capital letter and then without a capital letter.

5.The ‘because’ rap challenge:
Because is a hard word to spell. It is a good idea to spell out the letters to a rhythm, like a rap rhythm, saying, crisply, the names (not the sounds) of the letters.
eg bec (clap) au se
Say this over and over until you know it off by heart.
Now write the word as you spell it out to this rhythm.
Congratulations – you can do it.
6. Turn to page 75 and write the word ‘because’ in the spaces. If the word is at the beginning of a sentence it will need to have a capital letter.

7. Practise the sentences and then read them fluently to your tutor.
8. If you do not know a word in the sentence, and you can’t sound it out, look at the sound the word begins with and use the sense of the sentence to help you.
