My name .
Lesson Thirty: ‘here’ and ‘hear’
Revision: Read the compound words on page 57.
Read page 58. Make up two sentences with the word ‘blind’, showing the two different meanings of the word.
Make up two sentences using the word ‘wind’, showing the two different meanings and pronunciation of the word.
‘here’ and ‘hear’
1. Two other interesting words which sound the same but are spelt differently are ‘here’ and ‘hear’.
2. One way of remembering which one to use is to look at the spelling. We listen and hear with our ear and the word hear has the small word ear in it. So, if we are writing about listening or hearing with our ear then the spelling we use is hear.
3.. Notice that the word ‘hear'. with a capital letter looks like this ‘Hear’, and without a capital letter it looks like this, ‘hear’.
4. Trace over and then write the word ‘Hear’, with a capital letter and then without a capital letter.
Hear hear .
5. Notice that the word ‘here’ with a capital letter looks like this ‘Here’, and without a capital letter it looks like this, ‘here’.
6. Trace over and then write the word ‘Here’, with a capital letter and then without a capital letter.
Here here .
7. Pick up a blue pencil. Look at the sentences on page 60. Put a ‘fence’ around each word that says ‘hear’. Every time you put a fence around a word, read it.
8. Pick up a pink pencil. Look at the sentences on page 60. Put a ‘fence’ around each word that says ‘here’ Every time you put a fence around a word, read it.
